An inclusive and controversial poster

In the summer of 2022, Family Planning was targeted by part of the right and the far right, who denounced “highly subsidized” activists and called to put an end to these “abuses” by reducing the subsidies of the State. In their sights, therefore, a poster bearing the slogan “In Planning, men can also be pregnant” and the drawing of a pregnant transgender man.

The idea of the poster was to say that Family Planning “welcomes trans people and to tell them that they could come to the planning”, explains Sarah Durocher to AFP. The president denounces the “transphobic attacks and remarks” of “rare violence” which followed the campaign.

“If we removed funding from Planning, 400,000 people would be in serious difficulties, it is very alarming,” added the president of the association. At the head of the network, “we are more likely to maintain funding,” she said. Local branches will only see the impact of these calls in the first half of 2024, according to her.

“Fantasies” about education workshops

The prospect of a reduction in subsidies is all the more problematic in the midst of inflation, which increases the precariousness of single women with children. “We are forced to make choices, since funding, sometimes locally, does not increase while poverty is growing,” summarizes Sarah Durocher.

In 2023, attacks also targeted local branches of Family Planning. New damage has been committed in recent months and complaints have been filed. The association also denounces the misinformation surrounding its sexuality education workshops for young people.

The president spoke of “fantasies” on the part of “certain associations”, citing in particular Parents Vigilants, a network close to the Reconquest! party. by Eric Zemmour. The Family Union (new name of the Manif pour tous) for its part believes that the associations running these workshops at school are taking advantage of them “to make propaganda” in favor of “gender ideology”.
