by time news

Chennai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a notice to Fatima Latheef, a Malayalee student at IIT Madras, to give a detailed statement on her death. He was directed to report to his office in Chennai on Tuesday morning. The father has been summoned to seek further clarification on his earlier statement.

Fatima Latif was found dead on November 9, 2019 in a hostel at IIT. The family alleges that the teacher’s mental torture and religious discrimination were the cause of death. The Tamil Nadu government handed over the probe to the CBI after it led to massive protests.

Nine months ago, a CBI team visited a house in Kollam and took statements from Fatima’s parents and sister. Later the investigation slowed down. The CBI’s current move comes as the family is set to meet the Tamil Nadu chief minister and others as no significant progress has been made in the investigation.

According to CBI sources, the probe is in its final stages. It is learned that the final investigation report in the case will be submitted to the court soon. An investigation is underway into whether religious discrimination led to death.
