FDA Recalls 27 Eye Drop Products Due to “Insanitary Conditions”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall of 27 eye drop products due to potential safety concerns after FDA investigators found insanitary conditions at the manufacturing facility. This comes just weeks after the FDA issued a warning to consumers about over two dozen eye drop products.

The affected products are from brands including CVS Health, Leader (Cardinal Health), Rugby (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Target, Velocity Pharma, and Walmart. These products are being voluntarily recalled by the manufacturing company Kilitch Healthcare India Limited. All lot numbers of the recalled products have expiration dates between November 2023 to September 2025.

The FDA has announced that the manufacturer will inform its distributor, Velocity Pharma LLC, which will in turn inform retailers and wholesalers about the voluntary recall and coordinate the return of the impacted products.

Consumers who have used these eye drops are advised to stop using them immediately. The FDA warns that there is a potential risk of eye infections or related harm from using these products, although the manufacturing company has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.

If consumers experience any signs or symptoms of an eye infection after using these products, they are advised to talk to their healthcare provider or seek medical care immediately. Additionally, the FDA recommends properly discarding these products.

This latest recall raises concerns about the safety of over-the-counter drugs, particularly eye care products. Consumers are urged to stay informed about recalls and potential risks associated with products they use.
