(Victoria) The Liberals and New Democrats were declared the winners in two BC federal ridings too hotly contested to confirm a winner on election night.

According to Elections Canada, Liberal Wilson Miao will be the new MP for Richmond Center, beating outgoing Conservative MP Alice Wong by 772 votes.

In Nanaimo-Ladysmith on Vancouver Island, New Democrat candidate Lisa Marie Barron edged Tory Tamara Kronis by 1,281 votes. Outgoing Green MP Paul Manly placed third.

Earlier Friday, Elections Canada declared Liberal Taleeb Noormohamed the winner in Vancouver-Granville, the riding once represented by Independent MP Jody Wilson-Raybould, a former Liberal cabinet minister.

Liberal Patrick Weiler was also declared the winner in West Vancouver — Sunshine Coast — Sea to Sky, beating Conservative John Weston, a former member of Stephen Harper’s government.

While the mail-in ballots for several constituencies are still being counted, the final count of seats resulting from Monday’s election is nearly complete. The Liberals have 159, the Conservatives 119, 33 for the Bloc Québécois, 25 for the New Democratic Party and two for the Green Party.
