Five “healthy” foods with “tons” of excess sugar named

Supporters of healthy lifestyles and just proper nutrition, when choosing products to the table, are guided by a lot of indicators in their composition, among which there are a number of main ones – the content of artificial additives such as dyes and flavors, preservatives, “bad cholesterol”, salt. But often people watching the figure and health forget to check the sugar content and no doubt take “healthy” products, about which profile bloggers have been buzzing all their ears. However, not everything that we are accustomed to consider dietary is in fact.

Excess sugar consumption is known to lead to problems with the skin, digestion, teeth, and ultimately harm the figure. But it is not enough to give up sugar tea and sweets to ensure yourself from consuming excess sugar. There are five popular products that few people think about the “sugar threat”, writes Harper’s Bazaar.

Low-fat dairy products, the publication says, often do as much harm to the figure as their fatty counterparts due to their high sugar content. Manufacturers often specifically add sugar to products, since after artificial defatting, they lose their presentation and the taste becomes so-so. To correct the first, starch, preservatives and dyes are used, for the second – sugar. For example, cottage cheese with 5% fat will be more suitable for the figure than with 0%.

The second product with a lot of sugar is granola, muesli. Hercules with fruits, cereals and nuts – which, it would seem, could be healthier for breakfast. However, candied fruits (candied fruits), syrup, caramel are often added to such mixtures, not to mention artificial additives. In this regard, a plate of plain oatmeal is much healthier.

But just do not be deceived about “quick oatmeal” – a semi-finished product that you just need to pour boiling water or hot milk and wait a minute. In packaged cereals, there is essentially no fruit or oatmeal itself. Instead, there is a processed product (natural oatmeal is quite tough, they need to be boiled for about 20 minutes), during the manufacture of which a significant amount of useful properties is lost. As a result, “quick porridge” becomes just a fiction with a bunch of dyes, flavorings, flavor enhancers and, of course, a lot of sugar.

Dried fruits are considered an excellent alternative to cookies and chocolates, but the controversy about them continues. This is because you want to eat delicious and seemingly healthy dried fruits in unlimited quantities. However, eating a kilogram of apricots and a kilogram of dried apricots are two big differences. In fresh fruits, water sets the mass, and when dried, the fruit loses a lot in mass, while sugar (even natural sugar) remains in place. Nutritionists advise eating no more than a handful of dried fruits a day.

Plant-based milk with various additives is considered super useful – no lactose, no excess fat. However, in today’s popular oat, almond, rice milk, there are sometimes so many additional ingredients – including sugar – that it’s worth thinking about their benefits. They are more of a dessert rather than a substitute for cow’s milk. And by the way, nutritionists advise choosing plain soy milk, no additives – it contains a lot of nutrients, and there are also studies according to which it has a positive effect on the body in terms of cholesterol control.
