The Federation’s board of directors resigned after being suspected of administrative irregularities.
Four months before the 2023 World Cup in France, the Fijian Rugby Federation is in the midst of a crisis: a temporary administrator was appointed on Thursday after the collective resignation of the board of directors, suspected “administrative irregularities».
According to Minister of Justice Siromi Turaga, the statutes of the Federation were not registered correctly in 2018 and are illegal, due to a confusion in the governance of two entities which should have remained separate: the federation (Fiji Rugby Union) as such (which is an association “charityunder Fijian law), and its trading subsidiary, Fiji Rugby Union Pte Limited.
The national teams involved in sevens and fifteens rugby competitions are not affected by this turbulence, assured the federation. Fiji will face in Group C of the World Cup (September 8 – October 28) Wales, Australia, Georgia and Portugal.
