Then we have an exciting challenge for you! In the spring of 2024, we will recruit for the functional police training (FPU).

What does the function-oriented police training mean?
The function-oriented police training is basic training for police officers for prioritized functions in the Police Authority’s operations. The studies run full-time with a high rate of study over 1 year with approx. 15 compulsory study weeks and take place at the assigned university. The training is aimed at specific target groups that bring with them special competence and experience, which means that the training can be compressed in scope and design. Participants at FPU are employed and have a fixed salary during the education.

Applicants who receive employment will be trained as a police officer in accordance with Functional Police Training (Police Ordinance 2014:1104 and Ordinance on training for police officers 2014:1105).

After completed and approved studies and post-graduate training as well as a security clearance, the participant is employed as a police assistant, gets a permanent job and is placed at the region Bergslagen, regional investigation unit, IT crime center with the function of IT forensics and location in Örebro.

Police region Bergslagen is organized into three police areas: Dalarna, Värmland and Örebro, which together are divided into eleven local police areas. Furthermore, there are three regional units: the operational unit, the intelligence unit and the investigation unit, a regional office and national departments that are represented in the region to provide support to police operations.

At the regional Bergslagen’s investigation unit, there is the regional IT crime center section. The section contains several different areas of expertise, all with a focus on supplementing and contributing to the region’s investigative activities. Regional IT crime center Bergslagen’s task is to investigate and assist with excellence in investigations with IT-related elements. The section also has a mission to contribute to increasing the competence of investigative activities regarding IT-related crime throughout the region.

Job description

As an IT forensic scientist, your task is to assist investigators with forensic evidence and
information security of digital media, which can form an important part of a criminal investigation. The main task is to search, secure, analyze and document the content of electronic data carriers such as e.g. computers, mobile phones, cameras and surveillance systems. You may assist in house searches where e.g. electronic data carriers must be secured. It also happens that you may testify in connection with a trial or assist as an expert during an interrogation.

Through your work, you will be exposed to material that can be offensive and unpleasant. Therefore, special requirements are placed on the ability to handle such situations professionally with a focus on the investigation and the business’s goals. The rapid development of technology in society is a particular challenge for this business and it also demands your interest to follow and understand it. The function is part of the region’s preparedness organization with manned preparedness around the clock all days of the year.

There may also be additional general police tasks depending on the needs of the business.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have:

  • At least a university degree in a relevant field, for example in IT security, IT forensics, data, programming or other training that the employer deems relevant. The degree may not be more than two years old when you apply.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience for the function on a full-time and short-term basis, for example experience in obtaining, managing and analyzing complex information where you have used legislation and regulations as a starting point, preferably from investigative activities.
  • Swedish B driving license (manual gearbox)
  • Good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Good IT knowledge regarding common hardware and operating systems (tests may be carried out at the interview)
  • It is advantageous if you have:

  • Good knowledge of different file systems
  • Work experience of similar tasks and knowledge of IT forensic tools
  • Networking skills
  • Good habit of handling mobile devices based on iOS and Android
  • Experience in programming e.g. Python Java, C#

To succeed in the assignment, we see that you are a safe, stable and flexible person with good judgement. The work includes periods of high work peaks and you must be able to handle assignments with short notice, under time pressure and in parallel with other assignments. The tasks require you to be analytical and accurate. You have the ability to run IT forensic work effectively both independently and in close collaboration internally with colleagues and externally with other parties. We also see that you are communicative, you have a good ability to compile and prioritize cases in an educational and clear way.

The recruitment process:
The first selection is based on survey responses and received application documents. The applicants who advance are invited to a digital information meeting planned for v.10 or 11.

After the digital information meeting, trials take place at the Swedish Duty and Trials Agency from week 13 at their offices either in Malmö, Stockholm and Gothenburg.

Those who pass the tests will then be invited to an employment interview for the requested function. After the interview, a work test will be conducted. Information about this exam will be communicated if you are selected for an interview.

Terms of employment

Time-limited employment as an administrator during implementation of the function-oriented police training including introduction.
Time-limited employment as a police aspirant during the aspirant training (6 months) in the Bergslagen police region.
Permanent employment as a police assistant is offered after approved training and subsequent approved aspirant. The employment begins with a 6-month trial employment.

During the training and aspirant training, a salary of SEK 29,000/month is paid. After approved training, approved aspirant training and security clearance, an individual salary is set according to the function applied for.

If you have an ongoing permanent employment within the Police Authority, you retain your employment and your employment benefits and receive a temporary placement decision during the implementation of the functional police training.
