Germany: Court upheld entry ban for foreign nationals vaccinated with local vaccines

by time news

Fully vaccinated German citizens can enter the country from risk areas without undergoing a PCR test. However, this rule does not apply to foreign residents vaccinated with local vaccines.

The Berlin Administrative Court rejected the urgent application of the Iranian citizen and her family. The applicant was unable to enter the Federal Republic of Germany despite being fully vaccinated with a Chinese-made drug Sinovac. A woman living in Tehran flew to Germany to visit her daughter and grandchildren. At the border, she presented a vaccination certificate, where two vaccinations were recorded.

Thus, third-country nationals vaccinated with local vaccines that are not listed on the Paul Ehrlich Institute website may be banned from entering Germany. Vaccines made in China, as well as Russian ones, are not included in the list of approved vaccines on the website of the Paul Ehrlich Institute. The court argued that the restriction on vaccines is not discriminatory and does not violate the principle of equality.

Citizens vaccinated with vaccines not admitted to the EU are required to present a current negative PCR test when entering Germany.
