Google Chrome has received important updates to address critical security vulnerabilities. Other browsers are also affected.

Attention Chrome users: Google’s web browser has received urgently needed updates to close seven dangerous security gaps. At least one of these gaps is classified by the manufacturer as a critical risk. Users should therefore urgently ensure that they are using the latest version of Chrome.

In the official announcement of the new version, Google developers revealed details about four of the fixed vulnerabilities. Of particular concern is a so-called use-after-free gap, through which attackers could potentially execute malicious code and gain access to memory areas with undefined content.

Here’s how you can update Chrome

You can easily find out whether you are already using the current Chrome version via the Chrome settings. To do this, click on the three-dot menu in the top right of the browser and move the mouse pointer over the “Help” item. Another window will then open, click on the “About Google Chrome” option.

If you already have the current version, you will see the corresponding note and a blue checkmark. Otherwise, the browser will automatically download and install the update. Once the update is complete, all you need to do is restart Chrome.

Other browsers are also affected

The update is available for Android, Linux, macOS and Windows users. However, users of other browsers such as Microsoft Edge that are based on Chromium should also keep an eye out for an update soon.

In addition to closing the security gaps, Google has now also released an optimized version of Chrome for Windows on ARM. This is intended to offer users of ARM-compatible Windows PCs improved compatibility and performance.
