Technical Fault Delays Gotland Ferry, Passengers Offered Alternatives

The M/S Drotten, a popular ferry operated by Destination Gotland, has been out of service since last week due to a technical fault. However, the company has recently announced that the repairs will take longer than expected, leaving passengers with limited options for travel.

According to a press release by Destination Gotland CEO, Marcus Risberg, many shipyards in the Baltic Sea region are already fully occupied, causing delays in repairing the M/S Drotten. As a result, the ferry will be unavailable for an extended period of time. To accommodate affected passengers, the company will be introducing extra trips using their other ships, the M/S Visby and M/S Gotland. Passengers will be informed of their new departure times.

The technical fault was discovered during an investigation at a shipyard in Odense, Denmark. It was found that the ferry’s propeller shaft requires repairs before it can safely resume operation. As a result, all departures have been canceled until August 27.

In light of the extended service disruption, Destination Gotland is offering passengers who have trips booked with the M/S Drotten until September 24 the option to cancel or rebook their trips free of charge. This gesture aims to alleviate any inconvenience caused by the ferry’s unavailability.

Passengers who rely on the M/S Drotten for their travel plans are advised to stay updated on the situation and make use of the alternative arrangements offered by Destination Gotland. The company assures passengers that they are working diligently to complete the necessary repairs and get the ferry back into service as soon as possible.

In the meantime, travelers can visit the Destination Gotland website or contact their customer service for further information and assistance.
