Harbhajan 2.0; India’s veteran spinner ready to coach IPL team

Harbhajan Singh, one of India’s all-time great spinners, may not play in the IPL from next season. There are indications that veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh will play a different role awaiting fans in the next season of the IPL (IPL 2022). This was reported by the news agency PTI.

The player, who played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 last season, is expected to take over as coach next season. But it is not yet clear with which team Harbhajan will start his second innings.

Harbhajan, 41, who is not a member of the Indian team but has not yet retired from active cricket, played in the IPL last season. The player, who joined the Kolkata Knight Riders from Chennai Super Kings for Rs 2 crore, played a few matches in the first quarter of the 14th season but did not make it to the second quarter in the UAE.

Although he did not play in the second quarter, he was active in the coaching sessions of Kolkata. He was also the mentor of Kolkata’s mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty. He is expected to take over as Kolkata’s bowling coach next season.

Harbhajan is expected to announce his retirement from active cricket soon before starting his new innings in cricket. After this, it will be announced which team the coaching staff will join. There are indications that Harbhajan has received invitations, including from teams preparing to be part of the IPL this season.

‘I’m sure Harbhajan will be seen next season in the role of bowling consultant, mentor or member of the coaching staff. But it is not clear which team Harbhajan will pick. His wealth of experience will be beneficial to any team. His contributions can be expected, including who he chooses in the star auction, ”an IPL affiliate told PTI.

Along with Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, Harbhajan has taken 150 wickets in 163 matches in the IPL. Meanwhile, Harbhajan, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, has led them to the Champions League title. His best bowling performance was five wickets for just 18 runs. He also has a half-century in the IPL. His only half-century of his IPL career came in the 2015 IPL season against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). In that match, he hit 64 off 26 balls.
