Former head coach Ravi Shastri has spoken about the reason behind India’s failure to win the 2019 ODI World Cup and 2021 T20 World Cup.
The Indian team last won the Champions Trophy in 2013. Not even won an ICC trophy since then. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and the guidance of head coach Ravi Shastri, the Indian team had high hopes for the 2019 ODI World Cup and 2021 T20 World Cup series.
But the Indian team lost both those World Cups and went out disappointed. During Ravi Shastri’s coaching tenure, the Indian team created history by winning 2 Test series on Australian soil. Won Test series overseas and was amazing.
But the only drawback is that they did not win the ICC trophy during Ravi Shastri’s tenure. With Ravi Shastri’s coaching tenure over, Rahul Dravid is now acting as coach.
In this case, Ravi Shastri commented on the reason why the Indian team could not win those 2 World Cups.
Talking about this, Ravi Shastri said, I think that a player who can bowl in the top 6 is definitely needed in the team. Hardik Pandya’s injury has become a big problem. That was the reason for India’s defeat in 2 World Cups. The reason for the defeat was the absence of a bowler among the top 6 players as Hardik Pandya did not play. I asked the selectors to identify such a player. But Ravi Shastri said that there is no such player.
Hardik Pandya did not play in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Instead, they took Vijay Shankar as a 3D player. But he didn’t show up and was out injured halfway through the series. Although Hardik Pandya played in the 2021 T20 World Cup, he could not bowl his full bowling quota.
