After Bones and All, winner of the Silver Lion, Luca Guadagnino returns to the Lido to receive the Siae award, named this year after the recently deceased journalist Andrea Purgatori. «I am excited – said the director – I have been a proud member of SIAE for over twenty years and I have always felt that I was part of a big family in a big house. It is therefore a truly great honor to receive this prestigious award which marks a milestone for me. The delivery ceremony was held in the Sala Perla, as part of the Giornate degli Autori, as part of the Venice Film Festival. Guadagnino dedicated the prize to the Iranian directors locked up behind bars by the regime but also remembered the journalist Andrea Purgatori to whom the prize is entitled this year.  «He was an extraordinary journalist and screenwriter and the facts told by the former Prime Minister Giuliano Amato show that Purgatori was right about Ustica». Salvatore Nastasi, president of the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers, explained the reasons for the recognition: “An author whose gaze has been able to combine the art of Italian storytelling with the productive mastery of the greatest international directors, giving , through a rare sensitivity and authenticity, a personal imprint on our cinema. From the 1990s to today, Luca Guadagnino is the director and screenwriter who has recounted passions and excesses, undressed the bourgeoisie and explored the possibilities of genre cinema. An author who measured himself with cinema in all its formats and declinations: from music video clips to short films, from documentaries to feature films up to seriality. Films such as Melissa P., Io sono l’amore and Call me by your name are expressions of contemporary Italian cinema that have already become classics of reference, signed by a real pride for Made in Italy».
