Dubai – The government has made health insurance compulsory in all the emirates of the country. Health insurance is mandatory for all private sector employees and domestic workers from January 1. The new decision is a relief to the company’s uninsured employees. Employers are responsible for providing insurance to employees.

Currently, only the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai have compulsory health insurance for private sector employees. With the new announcement, the insurance law will come into effect across the country. All employers in Dubai are required to take out health insurance for their employees. Employees on family visas must also ensure insurance for their dependents. In Abu Dhabi, the employer and sponsor are required to provide insurance for their employees and their families.

From January 1, health insurance must also be taken by the employer when renewing the residency permit of the employee. This insurance will be linked to the visa. Visa will not be renewed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi without health insurance. The same system will be implemented in other emirates as well. In the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, a person will be fined AED 500 per month for not providing health insurance.
