The Ski Flying World Cup in Planica again claimed several fall victims on Saturday. The Italian Giovanni Bresadola was particularly hit hard.

The Ski Flying World Cup in Planica was supposed to be the culmination of team jumping. However, the sportiness almost took a back seat in the first round. Because the Italian Giovanni Bresadola fell badly during his jump.

He reached an enormous height and landed after 226 meters. However, when he landed, his left ski pulled away and the Italian crashed into the snow. Bresadola, 23, remained lying there and didn’t move. Paramedics came and treated the ski jumper. The Italian was then taken away on a stretcher.

“We have to see what’s wrong with the knee”

Karl Geiger said afterwards on ZDF: “I just saw the fall. The knee doesn’t look good. Also how he stayed there. I’m excited to see what happens. I wish him all the best.”

The Italian team’s coach, Jakub Jiroutek, said on ZDF: “He was so high in the second phase, had a bad landing, fell and has something with his knee. We have to see what’s wrong with the knee.”

Americans and Slovenians also fell

But it wasn’t just Bresadola who experienced a fall. The American Decker Dean was hit before the Italian. He flew 179.5 meters and also fell upon landing. Just like the Slovenian jumper Timi Zajc.

Zajc was unable to catch his very long jump of 242.5 meters and also fell. Helpers supported him and he hobbled away from the run on one leg. The Kazakh Sergei Tkachenko, the American Casey Larson and Eetu Nousiainen from Finland had already been hit on Thursday. Nousiainen suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus when he fell in qualifying.

The second round was canceled due to wind conditions. Austria won ahead of Slovenia and Norway. Germany took sixth place.
