In the southeastern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, 17 people have died and about 100 have gone missing due to monsoon downpours, the Times of India reported. Because of the rains, roads have been washed out and several villages have been flooded.

Showers started this week on Thursday 18 November. Because of the rains, the Cheyeru River overflowed its banks. Four cities were hardest hit – Anantapur, Kadap, Karnul and Chittoor. The flood waters have damaged railroad tracks and several roads between Kadapa and Tirupati, so rail and road traffic between these cities has been suspended.

In some areas, up to 200 mm of precipitation fell. Seven rescue teams were sent to provide assistance, helicopters of the Indian Air Force were also involved in the search operation, TASS writes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed to provide all the necessary assistance to the victims.
