Chief Public Prosecutor Alexander B. has been sentenced to six years in prison for corruption. Hesse’s Justice Minister Roman Poseck from the CDU on shaken confidence in the judiciary and the ministry’s claims for recourse.
OChief Public Prosecutor Alexander B. was spokesman for the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office and head of the “Central Office for Combating Property Crimes and Corruption in the Health Care System”. In the summer of 2020, the public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt made it public that they were investigating him and that he was in custody on allegations of corruption. On May 12, 2023, the Frankfurt Regional Court sentenced him to six years in prison. After four months of trial, the judges had come to the conclusion that B. was making money from a school friend’s company, which prepared expert opinions in the investigations of the central office. He also received bribes from a second company he hired. According to the verdict, he received a total of 277,000 euros in the non-statute-barred period between 2015 and 2020 alone. He also caused damage of 583,000 euros to the state of Hesse through acts of infidelity. B. has appealed the verdict.
Mr. Poseck, the presiding judge spoke of the serious failings of the public prosecutor’s office and the Hessian Ministry of Justice and said that Alexander B. could have been caught if one had only looked properly. Do you agree?
