hidden apology from Louis Vuitton?

by time news

ParisAny positive news should come at just the right time for Louis Vuitton. The brand only presented its new collection at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday – and was suddenly interrupted by Protestants from the global environmental movement Extinction Rebellion. Now it is more photos of women and men who carry banners critical of consumption and capitalism down the catwalk and are brutally removed from them by security men than pictures of all the beautiful clothes. (A fantastic collection, by the way, with which head designer Nicolas Ghesquière succeeds in creating a kind of best-of in fashion history, including modern adaptations of crinolines and corsages.)

So now Louis Vuitton needs nice headlines – and creates some for itself. On Wednesday, the label announced that actress Ho Yeon Jung would be the new international brand ambassador for the house. A stroke of genius, because the South Korean not only achieved her global breakthrough with her role in the Netflix drama series “Squid Game”, which premiered on September 17th (her number of Instagram followers has since increased from a manageable 400,000 fans to almost 15 Millions): Jung Ho Yeon is also a model and has already worked for Vuitton in her career.

“I immediately fell in love with Ho Yeon’s great talent and her fantastic personality, and I am looking forward to starting this new chapter in the journey that we began at Louis Vuitton a few years ago,” the company quotes chief designer Ghesquière somewhat woodenly. And the new brand ambassador told the magazine “Single List”: “I’m looking forward to every moment that I will experience with Louis Vuitton as their global ambassador.” She will probably not have thought of another invasion by rebels on the catwalk.
