After laying the wreath, the Prime Minister stood there silently for a while paying deep respect to the memory of the great architect of freedom, Bangabandhu.

After first paying tribute as the prime minister, party president Sheikh Hasina along with senior leaders of the party paid tribute on behalf of the party. On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu gave a historic speech at the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan). In that speech, he called on the people to continue fighting against the Pakistani invaders to achieve the long-cherished independence of Bengalis.

Bangabandhu said in his timeless speech to millions of freedom-loving people, ‘This time’s struggle is the struggle for our freedom, this time’s struggle is the struggle for freedom.’
