According to the Minister of Housing, Catalina Velasco, the start of construction of VIP housing increased significantly by more than 40% in March 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.

This increase is attributed to several factors, including the decrease in interest rates and the rebound in VIP home sales, supported by the solid performance of the Mi Casa Ya program.

The Mi Casa Ya program, designed to provide affordable housing to low-income families, It has delivered a total of 13,744 subsidies this year and plans to allocate 50,000 subsidies per year during the four-year period. The minister emphasized that these subsidies are aimed especially at the most needy families and that their allocation has been a priority of the Government of Change.

During a conversation with members of the financial and construction sector, Velasco highlighted the importance of Mi Casa Ya as a tool to achieve progressiveness in housing, reaching the families that need it most and increasing funding for VIP housing with program subsidies.

Alejandro Lobo, director of Housing at Asobancaria, supported this vision by stating that Mi Casa Ya has become a State policy that allows the most vulnerable families to access financing to acquire new housing. Lobo also noted that declining interest rates are creating favorable conditions for new home purchases and expressed optimism about the market’s future prospects.

According to the Minister of Housing, there are objective reasons to be optimistic: “At this moment the sector behaves in a similar way to the time before the pandemic. It is stabilizing, we see a rebound in VIP housing and we are taking advantage of that momentum.”
