German car manufacturers are faced with competition from China.

These are the six most exciting newcomers. To ignore? Cooperate? Imitate? The German manufacturers are feverishly looking for a way to deal with the new competition. Especially in China itself, Volkswagen and Co. have already lost a lot of ground. In a long interview, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse talks about the new competitors from China, the future of the combustion engine and his attitude to the four-day week.
Rottach-Egern, end of August: When the weather is good, the number of Porsches in the town of 5,800 on Lake Tegernsee is similar to that on Sylt or in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel. But today is not good weather. At twelve degrees and rain, several electric sedans from the Chinese brand BYD do a test lap around Germany’s supposedly cleanest lake – albeit in a decimated fleet.
