Iberia warns of a virus circulating on WhatsApp

“Iberia 2022 ‘Black Friday’ Contest: 5,000 free round-trip tickets to Europe for you”. This message has been circulating on mobile phones throughout Spain since last weekend; a succulent offer a priori but in which we should not fall: it’s a virus.

Through WhatsApp, the link has been passed from user to user until it was detected on social networks that it might not be a real draw, especially because of the weird looking hyperlinkin which nothing about the airline appeared, but some numbers preceded by a domain associated with a link shortening website.

Iberia itself was forced to comment on the matter when the consultations took place, asking the airline about the veracity of the promotion.

Iberia’s notice

“Notice to passengers: in recent days we have detected a high number of fake contest alerts and raffles to fly with us, which circulate especially through Whatsapp and which are a fraud,” the airline wrote on its Twitter account.

Likewise, he remembered that all the real raffles that they launch, as well as other offers and promotions are always published «exclusively on the Iberia website and official social media profiles.

The company also encouraged users who detected any type of suspicious message to report it to Iberia, while recommending never access any domain that it was not clear that it belonged to the company itself.

In responses to this official statement, several tweeters have alerted to other scams related to Iberia that often circulate through different networks, in addition to the aforementioned messaging, such as Instagram or Twitter itself.
