The bi-annual election schedule of Bangladesh Film Artists Association has been announced earlier. In the meantime, the artists association has announced the cancellation of the membership of actor Zayed Khan. After the announcement of the schedule, many people questioned such a decision. According to living legend Sohail Rana, the Ilyas Kanchan-led committee did nothing but picnic in two years.
Sohel Rana said, ‘The term of the artists association has expired. In fact Ilyas Kanchan could not do anything in these two years. Because he could not hold a single meeting with the entire committee. One group never came to the meeting. It is not possible for him to do anything alone. He wants to forget this one part of his life. At this time Shilpi Samiti could do nothing but have a picnic. I have not seen anything like the way Misha-Zayed used to work before this committee came. Nothing good can ever be done if there are differences among ourselves. To do something good, everyone must work together. Misha-Zayed committee was very good in that aspect. People knew there was a committee to be found next to the danger. Gifts were always sent to the houses of two to three hundred people on Eid.
Regarding the cancellation of Zayed Khan’s membership, Sohail Khan said, ‘I don’t know for what crime the membership of Zayed, who was elected general secretary three times in a row, has been suspended. He may be wrong but I can’t say whether he was chastised, membership suspended as per rules. As far as I know, to suspend one’s membership one has to mourn three times. If his answer is not satisfactory then all can decide through meeting. I don’t know if this is the case. It’s fine if done correctly. And if it is not done properly then it is not good to throw him out before the election. The distance that was between them was trying to be bridged, it has been further fueled.’
Regarding not inviting Zayed Khan to Shilpi Samiti’s picnic, Sohail Rana said, ‘It is a common rudeness. It was polite to invite Zaid, even if he did not have membership and had previously worked for the association for several years. Zayed is not a big wrongdoer or a criminal who cannot be invited. Even if not artists, many have been invited. There should be mutual respect and respect for one’s colleagues. It did not seem appropriate not to be invited there. The membership has been suspended to stop Zayed. They have done more work. Not all names come. Zayed Khan is the general secretary due to which the name comes up again and again.
