Avelino Dias da Silva the new president of the Gil Vicente and, shortly after the election, which he won with 69 percent, the leader spoke to members and supporters at the inauguration in which he succeeded his brother, Francisco Dias da Silva.
«If my parents saw me today, in this pose, at 68 years old, they would think I had lost my mind. Once here, I will try to dignify this place and I hope to live up to the outgoing president, who happens to be my brother”, he began by saying, thanking him for his trust.
«I want to thank everyone who trusted in our project, which is on the right path. To those who voted for the other candidacy, you have my respect and I am available to care for you”, he added, before concluding: “I am ready to die for Gil Vicente.”
As for electoral measures, Avelino Dias da Silva stressed that he will not allow props from other clubs in areas intended for home fans, in games against the so-called big clubs, and pointed out efforts to build a training academy, as well as restructuring the multipurpose pavilion in the city of Barcelos.
