Officers of the Georgian patrol police detained 12 protesters at the office of the ruling Georgian Dream party for administrative offenses, the ministry said in a statement.

“The protesters have exceeded the limits permitted by the law on freedom of assembly and expression. At this stage, the police have arrested 12 people administratively. We once again warn the organizers of the rally so that the rally does not turn into violence and does not go beyond the norms permitted by law, ”it was reported.

Earlier, about 200 opposition supporters organized a rally outside the building of the ruling party demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili after the death of journalist Alexander Lashkarava, who was beaten on July 5 by opponents of the LGBT community during coverage of the rally. Thus, the protesters threw cans with red paint and eggs in the direction of the building, after which the police began to arrest them.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also clarified that in the course of the investigation into Lashkarava’s death, more than 110 people were interviewed and records from 65 CCTV cameras were viewed. According to the ministry, according to the chemical report, drugs were found in the body of the deceased: morphine, codeine, tetrahydrocannabinol, gabapentin and monoacetylmorphine. They believe that the cause of death could be an overdose of these drugs.
