Ashwin topped the list with 48 wickets in 15 innings in eight Tests. He overtook Shaheen by 44 wickets. In 342.4 overs, Ashwin struck 48 off 69 maidens, conceding 810 runs. His best performance was taking six wickets for 61 runs. Shahina, on the other hand, took 44 wickets for 768 runs in 273.5 overs in nine Tests, including 70 maidens. His best performance in an innings was taking six wickets for 51 runs.
Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali (eight Tests, 39 wickets), Indian batsman Akshar Patel (five Tests, 35 wickets) and James Anderson (10 Tests, 32 wickets) are the third to fifth highest wicket takers this year.
In the first innings of the Mumbai Test, Ashwin dismissed four wickets for just eight runs, including two maidens, in eight overs. His victims were Henry Nichols, Tom Blendell, Tim Southee and Willie Somerville. Ashwin is one of the best Indian bowlers. He had earlier taken six wickets in two innings in the first Test which ended in a draw in Kanpur.
Indian domination
India have taken complete control of New Zealand in the Mumbai Test. India had already taken a huge lead of 332 runs. New Zealand were bowled out for 325 in their first innings. The visitors returned to the pavilion for just 62 runs.
Only two New Zealand batsmen crossed the line twice. Kyle Jamison was the top scorer with 17 runs. Skipper Tom Latham was out for 10 runs. Ashwin took four wickets while Mohammad Siraj smashed three wickets to break the lead. Akshar Patel took two wickets. India, who had a good lead of 263 in the second innings, were 69 for no loss at stumps on the second day.
