Ottawa: Canada has reacted sharply to the decision to summon India’s High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma. The Canadian government has ordered six Indian diplomats to leave the country on the morning of October 14. In this order, India’s High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma and other top diplomatic officials in Toronto have been asked to leave the country. India has decided to summon its High Commissioner after receiving a diplomatic communication from Canada on Monday.
what was in diplomatic communication
In this diplomatic communication, India’s High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma and other Indian diplomats have been accused of being involved in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. Expressing protest over this attitude of Canada, India has summoned the senior diplomat of its mission in Delhi. The Foreign Ministry said that the baseless targeting of the Indian High Commission and other diplomats in Canada is unacceptable.
What did the Indian Foreign Ministry say?
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that India received a diplomatic message from Canada yesterday, stating that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are monitoring the ongoing investigation in connection with a case in that country. The Government of India strongly rejects these absurd allegations and attributes them to the political agenda of the Trudeau government, which is focused on vote bank politics, the ministry said.
India said- we will also take action
She said India now reserves the right to take further steps in response to these latest attempts by the Government of Canada to fabricate allegations against Indian diplomats. The Ministry of External Affairs said, since Prime Minister Trudeau made certain allegations in September 2023, the Government of Canada has not shared even a shred of evidence with the Government of India despite multiple requests from our side.
Conspiracy to defame India
The Foreign Ministry said Canada’s latest move follows talks in which claims were again made without any facts. The Ministry of External Affairs said that this leaves no doubt that this is a deliberately designed strategy to defame India for political gains in the name of investigation. He said that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s hostile nature towards India has been evident for a long time.
