“In Haryana, children are interested in sports. The state has a sports culture. Those who want to own the achievements should put in 100% effort and surely they can lead by example,” he said after accepting the award.
“It gives me great joy to see young people participating in athletics. It’s a special feeling. Working hard at the stadium is our meditation, we work hard there for more than 8-10 hours,” said Neeraj.
Neeraj gained more acclaim with his success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj won the gold medal in the men’s javelin event. He thus became the second Indian to win gold in an individual sport at the Olympics.

Actor Sonu Sood received a special award for social work and tennis star Sania Mirza received an award for outstanding achievement. Actor Ranveer Singh was also felicitated with the Best Achievement Award. Former captain and 1983 World Cup winner Kapil Dev was present on the occasion. Kulzum Shadab Wahab, who worked with acid attack survivors, received a special mention award.

The 12th edition of the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year Awards was held in Delhi. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Smriti Irani, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Anurag Thakur attended the function. Celebrities like Kapil Dev, Sania Mirza and Ranveer Singh were also present at the event.
