India’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR), or birth rate per woman, will drop to 1.29 by 2050, warns a new study published in the Lancet.

The results of the study, published in the Lancet journal, provide information on global fertility and birth patterns in the year 2100. Accordingly, It has been found that the fertility rate in 2050 will be less than 2.1 births per woman. It is reported that by 2100, 97% of all countries will have a total fertility rate below 2.1.

However, only countries like Samoa, Somalia, Tonga, Niger, Chad and Tajikistan are expected to reach the target by 2050. An exceptionally high fertility rate is seen from this stage.

Also, by 2100, in contrast, 13 countries such as Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Saudi Arabia Less than one child per woman as predicted.

Also, in the list of countries with the lowest child birth rate in 2050, south korea, puerto rico, taiwan, serbia, ukraine are featured.

The study found that the fertility rate in India was 6.18 in 1950 and 4.6 in 1980. The same indicates that it has also decreased to 1.91. If the study’s predictions are true, India could face a significant population decline in the coming decades.

This change will lead to problems such as gender social inequality, labor shortage, etc.

The reason

Poonam, Executive Director of Population Foundation of India informed about this. “As countries grow economically, the cost of raising children increases. Hence it leads to less birth.

And the urgent need of the hour is to promote gender equality. Also, government and society must significantly reduce the cost of motherhood for women.” He said.
