In this, Srikanth defeated Cristo Bobo of France 21-18, 15-21, 21-16. Pranav defeated Darren Liu of Malaysia 22-20, 21-19 in his opening round. In the second round, Srikanth will face Jonathan Christie of Indonesia and Pranoy – Olympic champion Victo Axelson of Denmark.
Similarly, another Indian, P. Kashyap, defeated Denmark’s Hans Christian Solbok 21-10, 21-19. However, Sai Praneeth lost 21-16, 14-21, 20-22 to Indonesia’s Sheza Hiren Rustavito.
In the mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila / Sikki Reddy defeated No. 2 seed Praveen Jotan / Melati Deva Octavianti of Indonesia 21-11, 22-20. In the next round, Tharu / Sikki will face Thailand’s Subak Jomko / Subisara Pawsambran.
In the same category, the Indian pair of Sumeet Reddy / Aswini Ponnappa lost 15-21, 16-21 to Indonesia’s Hafeez Faisal / Gloria Emanuel. Similarly, Venkat Kaurav Prasad / Juhi Devangan lost 15-21, 12-21 to Hong Kong’s Sang Dok Singh / Nick Vik Young.
In the Ottawa doubles, MO Ajun / Dhruv Kapila lost 17-21, 12-21 to Japan’s Takuro Hoki / Yuko Kopayashi.
