Domestic consumption of the raw material increased 1%, reaching 182,000 bags consumed by the Colombian population

The National Federation of Coffee Growers reported the production report for February 2024, where the figure closed at 961,000 bags. If compared to the same month in 2023, there is a decrease of 6%, when the figure reached 1,025 million 60 kg bags.

Regarding the coffee year from October to December 2023 and 2022 compared to the coffee year of 2024, production increased 16% reaching 5.5 million bags this year, 757,000 bags more than 2023, when production reached the 4.8 million.

So far this year, production of bags reached 1.8 million, 1% more compared to 2023, and in the last 12 months, production reached 11.3 million bags, 194,000 bags more than the same period last year. Coffee production February 2024

Exports rose 13%

Regarding the preliminary exports carried out by the Federation during the month of February, there was an increase of 40% in 2024 compared to 2023, 35% more in the coffee year and a growth behavior in the current year as well as in the 12 months.

In total exports, 1.04 million bags were moved, compared to 929,000 in 2023.

The agricultural sector contributed to exports

With sales close to US$803 million, the agricultural sector was the one with the greatest growth in exports in January of this year, according to the report provided by Dane. This increase represents 9.1% when compared to the same month in 2023.

Imports fell 2%

In February, imports reached 110,000 60 kg bags, going from 113,000 in 2023 to 110,000 in 2024. Germán Bahamon, president of the Coffee Growers Federation, reiterates the downward trend in the last period.

«Imports for the full calendar year 2023, 34% (a third less than in 2022). With this great decrease in imports in the previous year, we see that this year they continue to decrease, and in the month of February they fall by 2%,” says the manager.

Consumption, for its part, showed an increase of 1%, closing at 182,000 bags.
