The Federal Security Service (FSB) has completed investigative actions in the case of Ivan Safronov, an adviser to the head of Roscosmos, a former Kommersant and Vedomosti correspondent, who is accused of treason. He began to familiarize himself with the investigation materials, sources told Interfax, RIA Novosti and TASS. A Kommersant source specified that the case contains 20 volumes.

“Investigative actions related to the collection of evidence in the criminal case have been completed. Currently, the accused and his lawyers have begun to familiarize themselves with the materials, “Interfax quotes the words of its interlocutor.

Ivan Safronov was detained on July 7, 2020. The investigation is convinced that in 2017 he passed classified information to the Czech special service, allegedly operating under the leadership of the United States. The accused himself did not admit his guilt and refused to deal with the investigation. On October 4, the Moscow City Court extended his arrest until January 7, 2022.

Earlier, the defense of Mr. Safronov reported that he had stopped receiving letters. The reason for the ban was not disclosed, but lawyers believe that in this way the special service is trying to extinguish the activity of the accused, who received many mailings and even personally sent columns to newspapers in anticipation of the imminent completion of the investigation.

Mr Safronov’s lawyer Dmitry Talantov said today, November 1, that he had appealed against the actions of the investigator, who took away his “harmless” working notes. According to him, his notes did not contain any secret information.
