MOSCOW – North Korean (North Korea) leader Kim Jong-un will visit Russia in the coming days at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained this on Monday (11/9/2023). The last time North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met was in April 2019 in Vladivostok.

This is Kim’s first visit to Russia and the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.

“At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un will pay an official visit to the Russian Federation in the coming days,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

“During Kim’s visit to Russia, negotiations between delegations and, if necessary, face-to-face meetings with Putin are planned,” a Kremlin spokesman said.

Previously, Dmitry Peskov said Russia and North Korea maintain good relations and respect each other and contact is taking place at various levels.

In July, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during his visit to Pyongyang, and the two officials discussed global and regional security issues.

The Russian minister also took part in a military parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the armistice in the Korean War of 1950-1953.

The North Korean leader’s most recent trip abroad was also in Vladivostok in 2019, where he held his first summit with Putin.
