‘I have nothing to talk about with Netanyahu’

Asked if he had anything to declare to the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, Lula did not back down, he was direct:

“Look, I have nothing to say. He, as a ruler, is a right-wing extremist, with extremely low human sensitivity, with no sensitivity whatsoever to the problems involving the Palestinian people. The Palestinian people exist and for the Israeli prime minister this is insignificant. He has to learn to respect the Palestinian people, that they have to be treated the same way as the Jews are. And that the Palestinian people have the right to have their territory demarcated since 1947”, said the PT member, once again asking the UN to demand Israel and other countries to recognize this decision.

Repatriation of Brazilians

Lula once again thanked the emir of Qatar, who played a fundamental role in the repatriation of foreigners, for his solidarity with Brazil and in the repatriation of the group of 32 Brazilians in Gaza. The president also recalled that 67 Brazilians are still in Gaza, in addition to one held hostage by Hamas.

“What happens in Gaza is not the war that we traditionally see in films, that we read in books. What we see is a genocide that is killing thousands of children who have nothing to do with it, innocent women, and destroying heritage sites that took years to build’, citing the word ‘peace’ several times as being an immediate need for the world.

War in Ukraine

Still on the conflicts in the Middle East, President Lula also spoke about the war in Ukraine, recognizing that Brazil was one of the first countries to “condemn Russia for invading Ukrainian territory”. The PT member demonstrated concern about democracy, as the conflict has not yet reached a solution.

“What is the cost of having one more date, ten more dates or 50 more dates? What is the cost of these meetings? It’s much cheaper and more humane than killing and bombing people. I really can’t understand. I am 78 years old, and in my 78 years of life I have been through a series of things. I believe that human beings are becoming irresponsible towards their own humanity. What will happen to democracy in 20, 30 years if we don’t provide answers to the problems humanity faces now?”, asked the president.

Rescuing Brazil and political challenges

Regarding the challenges of his third term, Lula stated that he received the baton in two different scenarios. He recalled that, in 2003, he assumed power left by a Democrat. However, this time, in 2023, he took on even greater challenges after the governance of a “fascist” and “negationist”, referring to Jair Bolsonaro.

The PT member highlighted that he had to restore 59 public social inclusion policies that were destroyed in the previous administration, in addition to reestablishing frayed international relations.

“If it were easy, I wouldn’t have run for a third term. I did this because, at that historic moment, I was the only one who could win the elections. I won and I will fulfill every word of promise I made to Brazilians. Rescue Brazil”, concluded Lula.
