The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkianaccused this Thursday the United Nations Organization (UN) of being ineffective in ending the regional crisis in the Middle East, this in the scenario of an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

“The fire of war continues to burn in the Palestinian Gaza Strip and in Lebanese cities,” Pezeshkian declared during a summit of the countries of BRICS in Kazan, Russia.

“International institutions, and in particular the UN, they lack the necessary efficiency to extinguish the fire of this crisis,” added the president.

Last week, the head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araqchi, described UN inaction “disaster”during a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

The Iranian president’s claim comes at a time when Tehran is waging an intense diplomatic campaign for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and to calm regional tensions.

Israel has vowed to make Iran pay for the launch of about 200 missiles against its territory last October 1st.

The Islamic Republic defended that attack as retaliation for the Israeli bombings in Lebanon, which killed an Iranian general and to Hezbollah chief Hasan Nasrallahat the end of September.

Let us remember that Iran does not recognize the State of Israel and support for the Palestinian cause is one of the pillars of its foreign policy since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
