Iran launches missiles at Iraq: “We attack Israeli bases”

by time news

Twelve ballistic missiles were fired last night (Saturday through Sunday) at several targets in Arbil, the capital of the Kurdish region in northern Iraq, including the U.S. consulate, Kurdish officials said, adding no casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, a U.S. State Department spokesman called it a “scandalous attack,” but said no Americans were harmed and no damage was done to U.S. government facilities in Arbil. The Iranian media claimed that the attacks were intended for “secret bases of Israel.”

The American source linked the Iranian attack to an attack attributed to Israel in Syria last week, in which two Revolutionary Guards officers were killed – Colonel Ahsan Karbalaypur and Colonel Morteza Saidanjad. A statement from the organization said shortly after the incident that “the Zionist regime will pay for this crime.”

At the same time, the Israeli defense establishment takes Iran’s threats seriously, and the premise is that after declaring their intention, they are now obligated to stand behind it.

Despite this, the defense establishment emphasizes that this is not a particularly high level of alert at this stage, and it is reflected mainly in its intelligence systems and its focus on various threats in space and the thickening of air defense capabilities. This is on the assumption that there is a reasonable possibility that the Iranians will try to respond with missiles and rockets or in another attempt to send UAVs towards Israel.
