Iran’s government budget faces deficit

by times news cr

Over the 6 months of the current Iranian year (March 20-September 21, 2024), a deficit has formed in the Iranian state budget.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, this was stated today (October 8) by the Minister of Economy and Finance of this country, Abdulnasir Hemmati, in his speech in the Iranian parliament.

According to him, part of the funds provided for in the budget was spent as part of the targeted payment of subsidies to citizens. This led to the formation of a budget deficit.

Hemmati added that funds from the National Development Fund of Iran were used to eliminate the budget deficit. Thus, the expenses associated with Article 18 of the state budget were covered.

“The current government of Iran seeks to ensure a unified state budget next year (March 21, 2025 – March 20, 2026). All expenses will be determined in the state budget, and it will be impossible to change it. The Iranian government intends to spend funds in the amount of 510 together with bank reserves trillion rials (about $1.16 billion) to create jobs and increase production in regions with high unemployment,” he said.

Note that in the current Iranian year (March 20, 2024-March 20, 2025), the Iranian government budget is about 64.6 quadrillion rials (about $157 billion).

Let us add that Article 18 of the Iranian state budget provides for an increase in production and the provision of loans to support job creation.

It should be noted that for 5 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 to August 21, 2024), the Iranian government budget deficit amounted to 45 trillion rials (about $109 million).
