BerlinThe man who injured a woman and a man with a knife in Wilmersdorf is now in custody. A judge issued an arrest warrant for the 29-year-old Afghan for attempted murder and aggravated assault.

However, the motive for the crime remained unclear on Monday. According to the public prosecutor’s office, Abdul Malik A. has not yet commented on this during the interrogation. As reported, he is said to have stabbed a 58-year-old landscape gardener several times in the neck with a knife on Saturday afternoon on Prinzregentenstrasse in Wilmersdorf. It should have bothered him that she worked as a woman. A 66-year-old man who wanted to help the woman was also seriously injured by the attacker by stabbing his neck.

“There are certain indications that the man is mentally disturbed,” said Martin Steltner, spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office on Monday. “But there are also indications of an Islamist motive. We’re going to tap both of these now. ”Steltner didn’t want to be any more specific.

Abdul Malik A. came to Germany as a refugee in 2016. He last lived in a one-room apartment in the Bavarian Quarter in Wilmersdorf. According to information from the Berliner Zeitung, he had tried several times to convert other people to Islam. In one case, he is said to have tried police officers who stopped him damaging election posters.

Abdul Malik A. was already housed in a clinic after the “PsychKG”

However, he was also temporarily housed in a clinic according to the Mental Health Act (PsychKG). The PsychKG regulates the deprivation of liberty in the case of acute danger to oneself or others.

The 29-year-old is currently in Moabit Detention Center. However, investigators believe it is possible that, after further medical examination, he will be housed in a closed clinic.

The case is possibly similar to the case of an Iraqi refugee who had “delusional religious and Islamist motives” rammed several cars and motorcyclists while driving amok on the city highway. In the act in the summer of last year, several people were injured, some seriously. After the crime, he put an ammunition box on the roof of his car and threatened that “everyone would die”. According to witnesses, he also shouted “Allahu Akbar”, rolled out a prayer rug on the roadway and sat down on it.

Berlin’s AfD parliamentary group leader Georg Pazderski said on Monday, among other things: “Unfortunately, Rotrotgrün has long lost control of security in our city.” Another uncontrolled influx of Muslims from Afghanistan and other archaic states must be stopped immediately.
