One of the most serious problems in our country is the shortage of specialist doctors, therefore the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste) announced a new measure in this regard. These are new guidelines to facilitate the hiring of recently graduated residents and to make it easier for them to enter the labor market.
New changes that are now applied
In this case, the CEO Pedro Zentenopresented the new guidelines for the selection of applicants graduated from medical specialties, as well as schools of nursing and dietetics and nutrition of the organism. The foregoing with the aim of making public and transparent the calls to resident doctors who wish to participate in the agency’s contracting process, even when their ID is in process.
During the meeting on the subject, which was held in the “Lázaro Cárdenas” auditorium of the institute’s central offices, the head of the agency stressed that the purpose is to end the backlog of specialists.

He informed that the interested parties will be given job security with a basic position and will have the opportunity to acquire a housing loan in medium-sized cities, where there is a lack of specialists, which will strengthen attention in the regions.
Process for hiring specialists at ISSSTE
He recalled that the Guidelines to regulate the selection calls for applicants graduated from medical specialties at ISSSTE, graduates and specialists in Nursing from the National School of Nursing, graduates in Dietetics and Nutrition, and master’s degrees in Clinical Nutrition from the School of ISSSTE Dietetics and Nutrition were published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on April 25, 2023.

The Director of Administration and Finance, Almond Lorena Ortiz Genisexpressed that the new guidelines are one more step in the institution, and will be reflected for the benefit of the affiliates.
“They lay the foundations to act in congruence with the strategies and needs of the institute, by providing these personnel that ISSSTE itself trains, retaining them, creating the right conditions and putting bureaucracy aside to avoid brain drain.”
In turn, the Strategic Director of Information, Supervision and Evaluation, Hidalgo Borghio Ruiz Hernández, stressed that this is transcendental, because it is the opportunity for health professionals trained at the institute to stay to work.
The president of the National Executive Committee (CEN) of the ISSSTE National Union (SNTISSSTE)Norma Liliana Rodríguez Argüelles, recognized the joint work of the different areas to change the norm, “because it always remained with good intentions and it was not until the arrival of the general director, Pedro Zenteno, that this initiative was presented to the Board of Directors and now is a reality”.
