Without vouchers in the short term, Javier Milei will seek to revalue the Education portfolio, promote literacy and reach 190 days of class. That is why he decreed it an essential service at all levels and determined its operation to be 75% mandatory, which limits teaching strikes.

As TN learned, the president intends to carry out a profound educational reform, but decided to leave it in the background to deal with the economic situation: he believes that Argentina is going through its worst crisis and seeks to avoid hyperinflation.

This is how the author of the DNU on economic deregulation, the former president of the Central Bank Federico Sturzenegger, defined it on Thursday in dialogue with this medium: “What we ordered was a small piece of what we want to do. In the decree, they were strictly economic issues, you cannot include the issues of Culture and Education.”

In that sense, the first guidelines that the secretariat led by Carlos Torrendel, one of the areas of the Ministry of Human Capital, will follow. Previously, the chosen one had been Martín Krause, but he was ruled out after some statements about the Gestapo.

In this regard, in the hallways of Casa Rosada, it was heard that “the main line is to restore value to the portfolio, which has been worn out a lot in recent years. There are very trained professional teams and we have to put them to work well.”

Along these lines, in article 97 of the DNU, initial, primary and secondary education was established as an essential service, along with childcare and special education services.

In that sense, La Libertad Avanza talks about re-institutionalizing the area and developing a strictly functioning federal scheme. So far, the new study plan and the restructuring of the organizational chart and its financing have not been defined.

On Thursday, Torrendel led the 128th assembly of the Federal Council of Education (CFE) in which the objective of complying with the 190 days of class set by former minister Jaime Perczyk was ratified. The head of the National Interuniversity Council (CIN), Carlos Greco, and the president of the Council of Rectors of Private Universities (CRUP), Rodolfo De Vicenzi, were present.

At the event, they talked about carrying out a comprehensive Educational Digital Information system (SIniDE) and a strategic Literacy plan. This was announced by the new general secretary of the CFE, José Manuel Thomas, who was general director of Schools in the province of Mendoza from 2019 to 2023.

In that sense, the person in charge of Education stated: “Participatory educational policy does not imply anarchism, nor disorder, nor centralism, but rather we must find how we can cooperate.”

“Institutionalizing does not mean bureaucratizing, but rather complying with the rules, seeing what we are missing, improving from what there is. Improving Argentina may not be so much about changing everything, but rather because we can do better what we already know we have to do, which is written. There are powerful ideas that we have to deal with,” he added.

“I have spoken with Minister Sandra Pettovello and she totally agrees that we have to continue promoting educational federalism,” he added.

In 2011, Torrendel defined his educational thinking in a journalistic column based on the following concept: “The right to education is composed of two inseparable co-principles: equity or educational justice and freedom of teaching or educational freedom.”

“This may seem like a theoretical or abstract question, but it strongly influences the daily educational life of all of us,” he added.

In that sense, in another article he stated: “The civil society school makes sense in itself, with its identity and project within the framework of the common good and the educational system.”

“The State has to encourage it, protect it, provide conditions, coordinate, regulate and control it to achieve the national educational good. But do not cloister her,” she stated.
