President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach is preparing to visit the Japanese city of Hiroshima on July 16, according to Kyodo, citing sources. According to them, a plan is also being considered to organize on the same day the visit of IOC Vice-President John Coates to Nagasaki – another city destroyed by nuclear bombing during the Second World War.

The United Nations (UN) announced July 16 as the day of the start of the current Olympic Truce. The IOC resumed the ancient tradition of calling for an armistice in 1993. During ceremonies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, according to Kyodo, committee leaders can call for the traditional Olympic movement to promote peace. The call will come amid doubts by some people about the need to hold international competitions during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo will be held from July 23 to August 8. Due to the pandemic, access to Olympic events has been banned for foreign fans and strict requirements have been set for Japanese fans. In particular, the spectators were forbidden to shout and shake hands at the stadiums, and at the end of the events they were advised to return home immediately.

How the Olympics will be held – in the publication of “Kommersant” “Do not sing and do not jump, do not drink, do not dance.”
