Mikel Landa and Enric Mas have lost their chances of achieving, as in 2022, a place on the podium of the Giro de Lombardia, the last big race of the season. The Mallorcan has been involved in a pile-up with other riders such as Remco Evenepoel and has opted to retire. Landa was in the leading group near the penultimate port, Zambla Alta, when a snag occurred that also affected Carapaz, Chaves and Fuglsang. The man from Alava got up with clear signs of pain and continued in the race, although now far from the first.
The first image was scary. Landa did not move. He had not suffered an accident for a long time and had just finished fifth in the last Vuelta a España. For Landa, third last year in this race, it was the last test with the Bahrain jersey. In 2024 and 2025 he will race for Soudad-Quick Step, which in the end is not going to merge with Jumbo-Visma. Evenepoel requested his signing to have the Alavés at his side in the mountain stages of the next Tour de France.
