Nikolay Denkov was a guest at the meeting of the leaders of the “Renew Europe” group in the European Parliament, despite the fact that his party “We continue the change” is not yet part of the political family.

He was invited to it by its leader and French President Emmanuel Macron. Denkov was present there as an observer from the side of “We continue the change”. The party does not yet have its own European family, but is expected to join the Liberals after the European elections in June.

The leading formation in the group is ALDE – the party of European liberals, headed by Ilhan Kyuchuk from DPS. At the end of 2023, there were rumors that the PP had already asked to join it, but these were denied by the party and the headquarters of the Euroliberals.

The “Changes” have another option – to join a future parliamentary group, which could be based on Macron’s “Revival”. In Brussels, it is persistently said that after the Euro vote, he may break away from ALDE and form his own group of “Renew Europe”. The reason for such theses is France’s recent attempt to usurp Germany’s leading role in the EU, and Macron’s efforts to do so are visible.

The French president has already several times invited representatives of “Change” to “Renew Europe” meetings. Kiril Petkov first took part in them as prime minister in 2022, and since last year Denkov has taken part in them.

The President of the European Council Charles Michel, the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Belgium and Estonia – Mark Rutte, Alexander de Cro and Kaia Kalas – were also present at the meeting on Friday.

“Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister, for your unwavering commitment to the EU. Your tireless efforts for Ukraine and in general on all fronts have been invaluable. You helped your country enter the Schengen area and you continuously worked for Bulgaria’s future in the Eurozone. It was a pleasure working with you. All the best for the future”, Charles Michel wished Denkov after the meeting with a post on the social network H.

The Eurogroup of Eurozone countries welcomed Bulgaria’s progress on the path to the introduction of the euro and encouraged efforts to fulfill all criteria. The only criterion that our country does not cover is inflation – it is higher than the rest of the EU countries.
