The employees of the Electricity Board continued to make various demands to the government, including job permanency and salary hike. In this situation, they had announced that they would go on a one-day strike on January 10 to insist on the fulfillment of their demands. Some trade unions had also expressed their support for the strike announcement by the Electricity Board employees.

Electricity workers strike:

In this situation, Saravanan and Yehumalai from Chennai, two employees of the Electricity Board filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Madras High Court. In this case, the case came up for hearing today.

At that time, the lawyers appearing for the petitioner argued that the strike cannot be called after the commencement of conciliation talks and as per the law no 6 weeks advance notice was issued for the strike by the Electricity Board employees.

The court imposed the ban:

The Tamil Nadu government also protested against the protest of the Electricity Board employees. Also, it was informed that if the power board employees go on strike, the distribution of Avinpal, the functioning of hospitals, schools and colleges will be affected.

After hearing the arguments of all sides, a bench comprising Chief Justice Raja and Justice Bharatha Chakraborty ordered a ban on the strike by the Electricity Board employees. It is noteworthy that the contract nurses who worked during the corona period should be given their jobs again and the school teachers are also protesting.

Although the High Court has stayed the strike of the Electricity Board employees, it is expected that the Government will hold talks with them.

A financial statement is to be tabled in the Tamil Nadu Assembly soon. It is expected that projects will be announced to fulfill the demands of various parties.
