The first finalist of the Copa del Rey has been defined. Mallorca showed a lot of desire this Tuesday afternoon (27/02) and achieved a historic victory against Real Sociedad. The game ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time, with goals from González and Oyarzabal. In the penalty shootout, Dominik Greif saved Oyarzabal’s shot and became the hero of the classification.
Start of the game
Real Sociedad advanced the marking lines and started with more game volume, but had difficulty creating dangerous opportunities. André Silva received many balls inside, but was unable to be productive. The first chance came in the 26th minute of the first half, when Zakharyan received the ball on the left side and finished into the hands of Dominik Greif.
Mallorca chose to start deeper and explore counterattacks. However, she only managed to find spaces at the end of the first half. In the 36th minute, Cyle Larin ran quickly down the right side and was left complaining about a penalty on the move. Then, Abdón received the ball near the area and shot low, putting Álex Remiro’s goal in danger.
The game gained excitement at the end of the first half. After all, in the 44th minute, Antonio Raíllo committed a penalty after intercepting a cross with his arm. From the kick, Brais Méndez shot weakly and low, causing Dominik Greif to save with his feet.
Mallorca goal

Real Sociedad’s reaction
Real Sociedad were not intimidated after the goal conceded and went on the attack. In the 25th minute, Oyarzabal received a beautiful pass from Brais Méndez and shot hard into the corner, leaving everything the same at the Reale Arena. Mallorca were shaken after the equalizer and retreated at the end of the second half.
Real Sociedad pressed at the end of the game and created dangerous chances with Becker, but did not reach the goal. Mallorca also came close to scoring with Jaume Costa, who received the ball inside the area and shot over.
A historical classification
In extra time, the teams went on the attack and created dangerous chances. However, neither side managed to score a goal. In the penalty shootout, Dominik Greif saved Oyarzabal’s shot and was one of the heroes of Mallorca’s classification.
Mallorca is now awaiting the definition of the clash between Athletic Bilbao and Atlético de Madrid for their opponent in the Copa del Rey final. The decision is scheduled for April 6th.
