Man in Kerala sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting boy with AIDS spread plan

A 41-year-old man from Idaman area near Punalur in Kollam district of Kerala was diagnosed with AIDS in 2013. He was receiving treatment for this. He and a family from the nearby Tenmalai area had a habit.

He became intimate with a 10-year-old boy belonging to the family. Last 3 years ago when no one was at home, the man had repeatedly abused the boy by showing him a video about homosexuality on his cell phone. Day by day the youth’s troubles increased.

After that the boy told his parents about it. The boy’s parents were shocked to hear this and immediately lodged a complaint with the Tenmalai police. The police registered a case and arrested the man. He told the inquiry that he sexually assaulted the boy with a plan to spread AIDS. After interrogation, the police put him in jail.

The case was pending in Punalur POCSO court. Judge Baiju, who heard the case, sentenced the man to 3 life imprisonment, 22 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh. He also ordered that this punishment should be served concurrently.

The judge has mentioned in his order that this is the worst atrocity in India and he has never heard anything like it anywhere.
