Marchment & Blue Jackets Top Kings: Game Recap | NHL News

Blue Jackets Defeat Kings Behind Marchment’s Two-Goal Performance

The Columbus Blue Jackets secured a victory over the Los Angeles Kings, fueled by a dominant performance on the power play and two goals from forward Marchment. The Kings, now 15-11-9, continue to struggle, having lost five of their last six games (1-3-2).

A key issue plaguing the Kings is their offensive output. “We obviously want to put on a show for our great fans,” a Los Angeles defenseman stated. “We’re not scoring goals. Special teams is kind of killing us right now, so we’ve got to figure that out soon.”

Blue Jackets Take Early Lead

Columbus established control early in the contest, capitalizing on a power play opportunity at 4:07 of the first period. Marchment navigated through defenders Joel Armia and Trevor Moore, ultimately firing a wrist shot past Kings goaltender Anton Forsberg’s blocker.

The Blue Jackets extended their lead to 2-0 late in the first period, at 19:36, again on the power play. Marchment’s second goal of the night was a result of a fortunate deflection, with Boone Jenner’s shot from the high slot bouncing off Damon Severson’s stick and then off Marchment’s chest before entering the net.

Marchment Reflects on His Performance

Marchment downplayed the luck involved in his second goal, stating, “Two is nice, three is better, you know.” He added, “Just trying to get some shots on net and happy that one went in. And then the other one was a great shot from the point, and went off my chest and in, so we’ll take it.”

A Valuable Acquisition for Columbus

Prior to joining the Blue Jackets, Marchment had accumulated 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 29 games with the Seattle Kraken, without scoring on the power play. He was acquired in a trade involving a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

His impact on the Blue Jackets roster has been immediately apparent. “He’s an unbelievable player,” a teammate remarked. “He can score goals, make passes, he can do everything on the ice.”

Forsberg finished the game with 27 saves for the Kings, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Blue Jackets’ offensive efficiency and strong special teams play. The Kings will need to address their scoring woes and improve their penalty kill if they hope to turn their season around.
