Professional sports are usually fierce, and although these days it is less so than in the past, there are still moments in which the protagonists get sparks. Cycling sprints are one of those, since the riders are at full pulse and speed.
Today there was a normal situation, with friction in the full packaging of the Classic Brugge-De Panne. In it, Jasper Philipsen raised his arms because he is currently the best sprinter in the world, but also because his confidence leads him to take risks where others raise their feet.
Such is the case of Tim Merlier, who described what happened when Jasper contacted him to get out of confinement. “When I was going to start my sprint I felt a push from behind. I kept my wheel and had nowhere to go,” he said.
“If I had moved Jasper would have gone against the fences and I would have been the one to blame. That’s why I couldn’t launch my packaging,” continued Soudal. “Sprinting is risky. Maybe I’m too good a guy, but I don’t want to kill anyone,” he added.
Ultimately, even as watered down as the art of sprinting has become, it is still a dangerous profession. And it is clear that, normally, those who risk the most, win the most (or maybe not).
Wow, that was so close between Philipsen and Merlier
Who do you think was at fault? Merlier, Philipsen or just racing inchident? #ClassicBruggedePanne #BruggedePanne
