BOLZANO. As part of a series of meetings in the various districts, the provincial health councilor Hubert Messner visited the Alta Valle Isarco health district and the Vipiteno hospital. “THE small hospitals they are the first facilities that I visit, as they are the ones that feel some challenges the most, such as the lack of specialists. I want to strengthen the networking of our healthcare facilities, between the center and the periphery and between the hospital and local care”, underlined Messner.

The network, explained the councilor, “works very well between general practitioners and the health district staff” and there is also “good collaboration with the hospital specialists”. The health district assists one average of 184 patients per week and provides various services, from home care for chronic and palliative patients to the distribution of medical aids.

Regarding the future strategy for the Vipiteno hospital, Messner clarified that he intends “maintain all departments and hospital services and carry out the planned construction works as planned”. The works for the construction of the Woman-child centre they will start later this year. Work is also expected to start on lot 2, while the Neurorehabilitation will soon have all 21 beds back. The adaptation works on the fifth floor of the hospital are underway. “Vipiteno will remain a base hospital for the Upper Isarco Valley, with specializations in the established areas”, reiterated Messner.

The situation of the district’s nursing staff is also good. A shared request of those present was the adjustment of salaries, also in consideration of the higher salary levels in the neighboring regions. There shortage of qualified personnel and the competition from neighboring countries were also the subject of the debate during the meeting with the employees of the Vipiteno hospital, even if, the note specifies, “the staff situation, especially in the nursing field, is currently good and the number of beds has recently been increased.” “It is clear that the nursing profession must become more attractive. As a result, most of the funds for collective bargaining are allocated to this category”, assured the councilor.
