“Our, perhaps, the first goal” is to make Russia a Europeanized country so that the dollar is replaced by the euro, Dmitry Timofeev, director of the Department of Control over External Restrictions of the Ministry of Finance, told the State Duma yesterday. According to him, there is every reason for this, but incentives are needed. Speaking about incentives, Timofeev suggested that they can be positive, negative and, possibly, some kind of directive methods for state-owned companies. And the Ministry of Finance published its position on this issue: “Difficulties in settlements associated with sanctions are already leading to a gradual transition to other currencies – this is confirmed by statistics over the past five years. The Ministry of Finance of Russia supports such a transition, including creating appropriate regulatory incentives. ” “Naturally, such incentives cannot include any prohibitions – only economic methods,” the ministry stressed.
